DOOM: The Dark Ages – Everything You Need to Know About the New DOOM Game

Get ready, gamers DOOM is back, and it’s bringing something completely different this time. The next chapter in the legendary shooter series is called DOOM: The Dark Ages, and it looks absolutely wild.

If you’re used to the high-tech, sci-fi vibe of recent DOOM games, this one is going to surprise you. DOOM: The Dark Ages takes us way back in time, to a brutal medieval world filled with demons, chaos, and all the insane action you’d expect but this time with swords, shields, and some crazy medieval weaponry. Think heavy metal meets ancient dark fantasy.

What is DOOM: The Dark Ages?

Instead of blasting demons on Mars or in high-tech facilities, this time the DOOM Slayer fights through a gritty, medieval world. The game is being described as a “medieval origin story” for the Slayer. So we’re going to see how he became the unstoppable force we all know today.

But don’t worry it’s still the fast, brutal DOOM gameplay fans love. You’ll still be ripping and tearing demons apart, just now you’ll also have massive swords, brutal melee attacks, and even a giant mechanical dragon to ride.

New Weapons and Gear

In The Dark Ages, you’re not just running around with laser guns. Instead, you’ll wield:

  • A giant shield-saw (basically Captain America’s shield if it was designed by a metal band).
  • Massive swords and brutal medieval guns.
  • Ancient versions of your favorite weapons, like shotguns and launchers, but twisted to fit the dark fantasy world.

And judging by early footage, everything still has that fast, crunchy DOOM feel but with even more brutal finishers.

What About the Story?

This isn’t just about smashing demons (though, obviously, there will be lots of that). It’s a deep dive into the Doom Slayer’s origins how he became the universe’s greatest demon slayer. Expect epic battles, dark kingdoms ruled by evil forces, and huge set pieces straight out of a heavy metal album cover.

When is it Coming?

DOOM: The Dark Ages is launching in 13th May 2025. It’ll be available on Xbox Series X|S, PC, and, interestingly, PlayStation 5 as well even though Microsoft owns the studio now (they promised to bring some games to PlayStation, and this is one of them).

It will also be available on Xbox Game Pass on day one, so if you’re subscribed, you can jump right in without paying extra.

Bottom Line:
DOOM: The Dark Ages looks like everything fans love about DOOM fast, loud, brutal action but thrown into a medieval fantasy world dripping with style. If you ever wondered what it would be like to see the Doom Slayer in a world of knights, monsters, and ancient magic, your wish is coming true.

Get your armor ready. 2025 can’t come soon enough.
